After being on such a great roll with Zoe Chant books, I was bound to find a one to disappoint. Bearista, I picked up solely for the punny name. I thought how funny, yes, I would love to see a big, burly bear shifter behind the counter wearing an apron and working as a barista. Instead, this was pretty boring and bland. There’s no build-up and everything is very surface level. There also seemed to be continuity issues where Gaby knew things that hadn’t been brought up yet, eg mates. Characters felt like cardboard cut-outs. We don’t get into Derek’s potentially shady background. We don’t really get into Gaby being targeted – I mean, they caught the guys. They already know everything she knows. Is it trying to get her dead so she can’t testify? She already provided statements. They can already prove things. I just, there were too many little things that added up and kept me from going with the flow. I don’t think I’ll be continuing with this series.
