I don’t remember why I picked up Consider Me by Becka Mack, but I am thankful I did every single day because every single day since I finished the book, I have thought about it, about Carter. This was such a great hockey romance with enough hockey to make this a legit sports romance. Pacing was on point, which is especially important in a 500+ page romance. Characters were well developed and interesting. I absolutely fell in love with every aspect of this book.
Let’s start with the boring. Pacing was great. Despite an initial attraction, the characters don’t instantly fall in love. They have to earn it and get to know one another. Slowly, through time, they build a relationship, which is shown with all the crescendos and pitfalls that come with learning to be with another. We also get to see how the characters are apart from one another. There is enough time to learn who each of the main characters are, their friends, their lives so that their development is one that can really be appreciated. You can truly understand where each half is coming from. We also get to know side characters just enough to entice us (or at least me) into reading the rest of this series.
Now, let’s talk about our main characters! Olivia is self-assured and determined. She knows what she wants and will not compromise. All Olivia wants is to be taken seriously and to be seriously loved. Despite being attracted to Carter, she doesn’t want a fling. She doesn’t want a casual situationship. She wants true, real love and someone that will be there through it all. Someone that will listen to her, to what she says and what she leaves to be inferred.
Enter Carter, NHL playboy who doesn’t believe in love, or at the very least that he is capable of it. He’s seen what true, real love can be and what can happen when that breaks. So, of course, he decides that is not for him. He is good with just hockey and flings. But Olivia changes all of that. She makes him work for it, and in working for it, he realizes just what he’s been missing. Carter is such a sweet, sunshine, golden retriever, best boy. I love him. He’s also got a bit of himbo in him, which I very much appreciate.
Consider Me by Becka Mack is the quintessential hockey romance. With the perfect blend of sport, romance, spice, and development, it truly hits the mark. Absolutely recommend this one to anyone looking to get into spicy hockey romances, or for a good romance in general.
