Star Crossed by Heather Guerre is my second book by this author and I continue to really enjoy her writing! I feel like I don’t normally go for alien/space romances, but this one really hit the spot! It was sweet, spicy, and had the slightest bit of angst.
The story starts in media res as our FMC Lyra is abducted by some aliens that want to traffic her, and other women. These traffickers use a special fluid, produced by the Scaeven race, that works as sex pollen (for those that are familiar with fanfic). It makes whomever comes in contact with that fluid to ONLY want sex. Nothing else matters. Lyra manages to escape and that is our setup to meeting Asier, a Scaeven who works against traffickers.
The pacing is wildly fast in this novel, which makes sense considering it is just shy of 250 pages. It’s a brisk move from escape, encounter, friendship, lust, love, but it works here! This isn’t a story made for an unending love of the ages. It’s fun, enjoyable, and gets straight to business with just enough plot. The spice is good, as is the angst and turmoil Asier has to contend with. I’m so grateful we do get his POV because his is the one where I felt the romance and love. The worldbuilding is tentative and I’d love to know more, read more in this universe. It will probably be some time before I pick up the second in this series, but this really is cementing Heather Guerre as an author I will keep track of for sure.
