review

Lord, I knew this was going to be dark. I knew it was going to be questionable. But damn, I still had higher hopes for Such a Good Guy by Kate Raven. This felt so half cocked full of ideas that never have the opportunity to take root. Everything feels like you’re being swept away in a current with a narrative that is more akin to a stream of consciousness than planned and plotted. We start hard with Luke doing a murder and giving his crush, Luna, what he thinks she wants. It just continues from there. FMC is useless and a doormat. She never takes a stand and just lets whatever happen to her and figures well, it happened oh well! Luke, I don’t know. On the one hand it’s like oh okay, he’s morally black MMC but then they add in like his having issues or being like dumb? Oblivious to anything that doesn’t involve Luna? It was a weird juxtaposition. There’s a secondary plot with a tertiary character that was not needed at all. I think there was simply too much going on for a book that is only 139 pages short. This would’ve worked better as a longer book or with a clearer destination in mind. It’s not the worst thing I’ve read, and I did manage to finish it. I think if you’re only looking for smut and the specific kinks in this book, you’ll enjoy Such a Good Guy by Kate Raven. If you prefer some sort of cohesive story with your spice, you’ll probably find this lacking.
