Romeo and Juliet meets Hallmark Christmas movie in this steamy romp about star-crossed nonlovers caught up in a fake romance that could change everything they know in a real big way.
Faking an engagement to my secret high school crush was not on my to-do list when I landed for a short visit home. But when Amanda Anderson announces that she’s my fiancée, I take a leap and play along with the farce.
Why? Because the Capulets and Montagues have nothing on the Andersons and Silvers of Tinsel, Michigan. In the name of bringing peace to our Christmas-themed hometown and ourselves, we’ll play the part of Romeo and Juliet.
If our relatives think we’re in love, they’ll have to end this ridiculous feud. Right? Amanda’s a professional dog walker, and I’m an engineer who loves dogs―how hard could it be to show our families what else we all have in common?
The heat and this town’s infernal holiday cheer are messing with my head, though. And once we start making our fake wedding plans, I can’t seem to keep my heart out of it.

review

So, I’m choosing to post this after the Christmas holidays despite this being marketed as a Christmas romance. Why? Because while I absolutely loved The Fake Wedding Project by Pippa Grant, I don’t think it is necessarily a Christmas romance and is, instead, a contemporary romance with holiday elements. It was still a really great read with plenty of hijinks and heart.

I understand why this is marketed as a holiday romance. The town this takes place in is a Christmas themed town called Tinsel. That said, I was so confused when the book started and they were talking about how hot it was and sweating when they’re in Michigan. I had to review the synopsis a few times over to make sure I wasn’t reading the wrong book. Despite not taking place during the winter season, this was still a really good romance that left me feeling cute and fluffy!

In a town of feuding families, Amanda thinks faking an engagement to her family’s rival, Dane, will be enough to get her out of having to move back to this town to take over the family business. It isn’t but now Amanda and Dane are stuck planning a wedding they know isn’t going to happen. The couple got along so well it’s a wonder how much time they lost out on what could’ve been an amazing romance due to their families’ feud. They had great chemistry and were well matched. The spice is good, but my favorite spicy scene has to be Amanda accidentally walking in on Dane taking care of business in the shower. We need more scenes like that! Let smut be awkward!

With such an influx of holiday romances, I think The Fake Wedding Project by Pippa Grant would be a great read for after the holidays, especially when you’re in the Christmas spirit despite it being 80 degrees hot out. The leads are great with fantastic chemistry and humor. Plus, the epilogue was super cute and funny.
